Road transport and roads
The total length of roads in the Ulytau region is 2,711.7 km, including 961 km of national roads, 896 km of regional roads, 310 km of district roads, and 545 km of local roads.
The share of roads in good condition is 91%. It is planned to repair about 270 km of roads by 2026 and increase the share of good roads to 93%.
Construction work has started on the reconstruction of the "Kyzylorda-Zhezkazgan" highway – 208 km (216-424 km), with a cost of 108.7 billion tenge, involving 4 contracting organizations.
In addition, competitive procedures are being carried out to determine the contractor for the "Karaganda-Zhezkazgan" route – 40 km (755-795 km).
Repair work has begun on a section of the "Ulytau-Arkalyk" highway – 30 km (163-193 km), with a cost of 2.7 billion tenge, and will continue into 2025.
Also, the construction of the regional road "Satpaev-Malshybay-Zhosykhan, Dombaul Mausoleum" (19.5 km, cost – 9.6 billion tenge) is underway.
For the reconstruction of the "Karazhal-Atasu" regional road (0-28 km, cost – 10.4 billion tenge), 1.7 billion tenge has been allocated (NF – 1.6 billion tenge, OB – 105 million tenge).
18 new buses for city public transport have been purchased for 721 million tenge.
Current repair work was carried out on the runway of the Zhezkazgan airport for a total of 1.3 billion tenge.
Railway transport
The main operator of railway transportation in the region is "KTZ-Freight Transportation" LLP.
Zhezkazgan Railway StationAir transport
Zhezkazgan Airport was built between 1971 and 1973. It is equipped with a runway with an asphalt-concrete surface. In 1985, a new terminal was constructed, designed to handle up to 200 passengers per hour. Since 2004, reconstruction activities have been carried out to bring the airport up to international standards. Major repairs were made to the runway and the terminal building. In 2008, the airport was granted international status.
In general, the region has organized air routes in four directions: "Zhezkazgan-Astana", "Zhezkazgan-Almaty", "Zhezkazgan-Karaganda", and "Zhezkazgan-Shymkent".
International Airport "Zhezkazgan"Energy infrastructure and heat supply
The Zhezkazgan CHP (Combined Heat and Power Plant), commissioned in 1952, operates in the region. The CHP supplies electricity and thermal energy to the enterprises of Kazakhmys Corporation located at the Zhezkazgan industrial site, and also provides thermal energy to the district heating system of Zhezkazgan city. The installed electrical capacity is 252 MW, and the thermal capacity is 564 Gcal/hour. The main energy equipment consists of 8 boiler units and 5 high-pressure turbines. Zhezkazgan CHP, operated by Kazakhmys Energy, is included in the State Register of Natural Monopolies as a subject in the field of thermal energy production.
Gas
The "Saryarka" main gas pipeline project is being implemented in the region, including the construction of gas distribution networks, particularly in the city of Zhezkazgan.
The total cost of the project is 14.5 billion tenge, with the implementation period from 2019 to 2025. The gasification project for Zhezkazgan city consists of 3 stages and 7 commissioning complexes. The total length is approximately 200 km.
